The Transsion connection

Infinix sits under the Chinese company Transsion Holdings. Tecno, another Transsion brand, was previously accused of shipping smartphones with pre-installed malware. The company later investigated and issued a security patch.

A report claimed that Tecno devices were subscribing users to paid services without consent through pre-installed xHelper and Triada malware. The report came from Buzzfeed, citing an investigation by Secure D. Transsion Holdings confirmed that the Triada and xHelper malware were present in Tecno W2 smartphones, but blamed the vendor and supply chain, and said the issue was later rectified.

According to the company, the Triada issue surfaced in March 2018 and was fixed the same year through an OTA update, and it affected the African market. Itel, also part of Transsion Holdings, is active in much of the feature phone market in India. You can find more Infinix coverage on our Infinix page.
