Google has launched a new fitness tracker named the Fitbit
Edge. It features a 1.34-inch AMOLED display, built-in GPS, and various
health-tracking capabilities. Positioned between a standard fitness band and a
smartwatch, the device monitors heart rate, sleep, and body recovery, while
also offering ECG functionality. According to the company, the Fitbit Edge
offers up to 7 days of battery life on a single charge.
The Fitbit Edge is priced at $179.99 (approximately
₹17,200). Sales begin on October 27, though pre-bookings are already open.
Buyers will also receive a three-month subscription to Google Health Premium.
The tracker will be available in Obsidian (matte black), Fog
(silver), Olive, and Canyon (gold finish) color options. Additionally, a
special edition endorsed by basketball player Stephen Curry has been introduced,
priced at $219.99. Details regarding its price and availability in India have
not yet been announced. The Fitbit Edge sports a 1.34-inch color AMOLED display
with an Always-On Display feature, allowing users to view essential information
at a glance. A physical button on the side enables functions such as pausing or
resuming workouts.
The device features an aluminum body; without the strap, it
weighs 17.7 grams and is approximately 11.58mm thick. It holds 5ATM and IP68
ratings, meaning it is water-resistant up to a depth of 50 meters. It is
compatible with devices running Android 11 or later and iPhones running iOS
16.4 or newer. The Fitbit Edge features GPS and Galileo support, allowing users
to track routes and distances during outdoor workouts without needing to carry
their phones. It offers over 40 exercise modes and can automatically recognize
100 different types of activities.
Regarding battery life, the company states that the Fitbit
Edge can last up to 7 days on a single charge. It also supports fast magnetic
charging; the company claims that just a 5-minute charge provides enough power
for a full day of use, while a full charge takes approximately 90 minutes. The
Fitbit Edge is equipped with sensors for heart rate monitoring, ECG, blood oxygen
levels (SpO2), skin temperature, and sleep tracking. It provides insights into
various sleep stages and body recovery. The ECG feature allows for the
assessment of heart rhythm, although the availability of ECG and certain health
features may vary by region.
It also includes the Google Health Coach feature, which
offers fitness-related advice based on the user's activities and health data.
Some features require a Google Health Premium subscription. The company has
also clarified that these health-tracking features are not a substitute for
medical examinations or professional medical advice.
