The Samsung Galaxy Note smartphone series has officially come to an end. Samsung confirmed at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022 that the iconic Note lineup is being replaced by the Galaxy S-series Ultra model, bringing a long chapter in smartphone history to a close.
Samsung Galaxy Note Smartphone Series Officially Discontinued
At MWC 2022, Samsung smartphone chief Roh Tae-Moon was asked directly about the future of the Galaxy Note lineup. His answer left no room for doubt: "Galaxy Note will now come under the name Ultra." This was the first official confirmation that Samsung had permanently retired the Note branding in favour of its Galaxy S Ultra line.
The decision had been building for some time. Samsung introduced the last true Galaxy Note lineup — the Galaxy Note 20 Series — back in 2020. Of the three, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the model that most directly inherits the Note legacy. It is the first Galaxy S-series phone to feature a dedicated slot to house the S-Pen stylus — a hallmark feature that had defined every Galaxy Note device.
This is not merely a software or accessory crossover. The Galaxy S22 Ultra integrates the S-Pen into the body of the phone, just as every Note did. Samsung fans who relied on the stylus for note-taking, sketching, or precision tasks will find the same functionality carried over to the Ultra model without compromise.
