Google to block RT and Sputnik YouTube channel in Europe, advertising has already been banned

Google is also playing an important role in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Google has announced that it will block Russia’s RT and Sputnik YouTube channels in Europe. These channels can be seen outside Europe. Google has already blocked Russia’s state-run media institution RT and other channels from earning money from its platform. The company said that it has stopped receiving money from advertisements on videos of websites and apps.

Russia will not earn from Google’s platform

Prior to Google, YouTube had banned several Russian channels, including the Russian government’s media organization RT, from earning money from ads that accompany their videos. YouTube said that YouTube is prohibiting the monetization of many channels. Including several Russian channels covered in recent EU sanctions.

The Russian government was also accused of propaganda

For the past several years, YouTube has been asked to take action against channels affiliated with the Russian government. They have been accused of spreading propaganda, and they should not benefit from it. According to an estimate, Russia received between 7 million and 32 million dollars from advertisements on 26 YouTube channels in the two years to December 2018. The European Union on Wednesday announced sanctions on some individuals, including Margarita Simonyan.

Google blocks live location in Maps in Ukraine

Google has temporarily disabled some Google Maps tools in Ukraine. These tools used to help in knowing the live traffic conditions and how crowded different places might be. Google, a company of Alphabet Inc. has given information about this. Earlier, Google had blocked Russia’s state-run media institution from earning money on its platform.
