The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is back with a third variant, and this time Samsung has swapped the chipset for Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865. There had been news earlier that the company was preparing another model of its popular Galaxy S20 Fan Edition, and that information has now been confirmed. According to the news, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 4G model with the Snapdragon 865 chipset has launched in Germany and may knock on other markets in the coming days. It joins the two earlier Galaxy S20 FE models the company previously launched in India, one supporting 4G and the other 5G.
What is new in the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Snapdragon 865 model
To clear up any confusion, this is the third model of the Galaxy S20 FE phone overall. The earlier two were sold in India, one with 4G and the other with 5G connectivity, and this newest variant once again sticks with 4G. So if you are comparing it against the existing 4G version, connectivity is not where the differences lie.
The main difference between this new variant and the older 4G model is the chipset. The earlier Galaxy S20 FE 4G ran on Samsung's own Exynos 990 chipset, while this new model is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset instead. For buyers who prefer Qualcomm's silicon, that swap is the headline change with this release, even though the rest of the package stays familiar.
On the official Samsung Germany website, the phone is listed in six color variants. These include Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy, Cloud Orange, Cloud Red and Cloud White, giving buyers a wide spread of finishes to choose from. The handset carries an IP68 rating that makes it water resistant, runs Samsung One UI on top of Android, and covers security with both an in-display fingerprint sensor and a face unlock feature.
Galaxy S20 FE design and display
Aside from the new processor, the other specifications are the same as the older model. The phone is built around an Infinity-O display with a bezel-less design and a punch-hole on the upper side that houses a 3.34mm selfie camera. It features a 6.5-inch FullHD+ Super AMOLED display with 1080 x 2400 pixel resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate, so scrolling and touch response stay smooth. For power backup, the Galaxy S20 FE packs a 4,500 mAh battery with 25W fast charging support.
Camera setup
For photography, the Galaxy S20 FE supports a triple rear camera that sits in a vertical, square setup on the upper right of the back panel. It includes a 12-megapixel dual-pixel camera with f/2.2 aperture, a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens with f/1.8 aperture and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture, covering standard, wide and zoomed shots. For selfies and video calling, the phone has a 32-megapixel front camera with f/2.2 aperture.
