The OPPO K9 5G is the brand's newest upper-budget 5G phone, arriving in China at 1,999 Yuan (about 22,000 rupees) as an upgraded successor to last year's OPPO K7 5G. It pairs a 6.43-inch 90Hz AMOLED display with a 64-megapixel triple camera and 65W fast charging. The launch follows a run of recent OPPO 5G releases in the lower range, including the OPPO A74 and OPPO A54 5G, and because the company often offers its K series under the A series in India, the OPPO K9 5G is widely expected to reach Indian buyers under a rebadged name.
OPPO K9 5G display and design
The phone uses a 6.43-inch AMOLED screen with a punch-hole cutout and a full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. The panel has a 20:9 aspect ratio, a 90Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling for smoother scrolling and gaming. Compared with the K7 5G it replaces, the K9 5G brings a bigger screen and a higher refresh rate, which are two of the standout upgrades this generation. An in-display fingerprint scanner is built into the screen, and the handset is a dual-SIM device that supports 5G on both SIMs at the same time.
Performance and software
Power comes from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G processor paired with 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB of internal storage. There is no microSD card slot, so storage is not expandable. The phone ships with Android 11 layered under ColorOS 11.1. To keep things cool during long sessions, OPPO fits a VC liquid-cooled heat sink, a copper plate and a multi-layer thermal graphite sheet.
Cameras on the OPPO K9 5G
Photography sees a clear step up from the K7 5G, with the camera hardware being one of the headline upgrades alongside the display. The rear hosts a triple camera setup led by a 64-megapixel main sensor, joined by an 8-megapixel ultrawide and a 2-megapixel macro lens for wide-angle shots and close-ups. On the front, a 32-megapixel selfie camera sits in the punch-hole cutout, giving the OPPO K9 5G plenty of resolution for selfies and video calls.
Battery, charging and ports
A 4,300mAh battery keeps the lights on, backed by 65W rapid charging. OPPO claims the phone can be fully charged in about 35 minutes, which makes topping up between sessions quick and convenient. To keep performance steady while gaming or browsing, the phone uses a VC liquid-cooled heat sink, a copper plate and a multi-layer thermal graphite sheet. Connectivity includes a USB Type-C port and, notably for the segment, a 3.5mm audio jack.
