The Huawei Mate X2 phone has launched in China as the successor to the original Huawei Mate X from February 2019. It is a foldable smartphone built around an 8-inch OLED main display and a 50-megapixel primary camera, and it switches to an inward-folding design. The headline draw is a high-end folding experience aimed squarely at buyers who want a tablet-sized screen that tucks into a pocket.
Unlike the first Mate X, the Huawei Mate X2 folds its main screen inward, the same approach used on the Samsung Galaxy Fold, rather than wrapping the display around the outside. It ships in four colours, offers two RAM and storage configurations, and pairs a quad rear camera with a single selfie camera.

In China, the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant is priced at CNY 17,999 (about Rs 2.01 lakh). The 8GB RAM and 512GB storage variant costs CNY 18,999 (about Rs 2.12 lakh).

The phone comes from Huawei and runs Android 10-based EMUI 11.0 with dual-SIM (Nano) support.
Huawei Mate X2 display and performance
When folded, the Mate X2 uses a 6.5-inch OLED display with a 1,160x2,700-pixel resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, a 240Hz touch sampling rate and 456 PPI pixel density. Unfolded, it opens into an 8-inch OLED display with a 2,200x2,480-pixel resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, a 180Hz touch sampling rate and 413 PPI pixel density.
Power comes from an octa-core Kirin 9000 processor paired with a Mali-G78 GPU. The reviewed configuration carries 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, expandable by a further 256GB through a Huawei Nano memory card.
Cameras, battery and connectivity
The rear setup is led by a 50-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.9 lens and optical image stabilisation (OIS). It is joined by a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor with an f/2.2 lens, a 12-megapixel telephoto camera with an f/2.4 aperture and an 8-megapixel camera with OIS and an f/4.4 aperture. On the front, a 16-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 lens handles selfies and video calls, set inside a capsule-shaped hole-punch cutout.
The Mate X2 packs a 4,500mAh battery with 55-watt fast charging. Connectivity covers 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC and a USB Type-C port. Sensors include a gravity sensor, infrared (IR) sensor, barometer, gyroscope, compass, ambient light sensor and proximity sensor, plus a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
