The Sony Xperia Pro has officially launched as Sony's ultra-flagship smartphone built specifically for content creators, professional photographers and videographers. It pairs a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display with an HDMI port, making it the first smartphone in the world to include one. That combination lets pros use the phone as an external monitor and a high-speed footage relay rather than just a camera.
Sony Xperia Pro price and availability
The Sony Xperia Pro is priced at $2,499.99 (around Rs 1,82,500), placing it among the most expensive smartphones in the world and squarely in foldable-phone territory. At that price you could instead buy a capable DSLR and a high-end laptop.
It is currently on sale in the US through Amazon, B&H Photo Video and Sony online stores. Sony has not confirmed a launch date for other markets, including India, though it is widely expected to arrive there soon. For more from the maker, see our coverage of Sony.
Display and design built for creators
The 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED panel runs at a 1644x3840 resolution with a 60Hz refresh rate. It covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and includes a Creator mode powered by CineAlta, with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protecting the front.
That screen doubles as a video streaming device or an on-set video monitor, a feature aimed directly at filmmakers and vloggers working on short movies, documentaries and professional shoots.
Performance and storage
Inside, the phone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC and ships with Android 10. Memory and storage are generous for a creator device:
- 12GB of RAM
- 512GB of internal storage
- 5G connectivity
Camera, HDMI and battery
Using the HDMI port, the Sony Xperia Pro can transfer 4K video at speeds up to 131Mbps, moving high-quality footage off other gear with ease. Its autofocus borrows from the Sony Alpha 1 camera and can shoot continuously at 20FPS.
The rear setup is a triple camera system led by a 12 MP Exmor RS primary sensor, joined by two further 12-megapixel cameras alongside an ultraviolet sensor and a depth sensor. On the front sits an 8-megapixel selfie camera. Power comes from a 4,000mAh battery with 21W fast charging.
