Nokia is bringing a cheap Android phone again, with HMD Global preparing a new budget device that runs on the Android Go version. According to media reports, the smartphone is set to launch on December 15 in China before reaching other markets in the coming days. The move follows Nokia 2.4, which recently went on sale in India at Rs 10,399.

HMD Global, the company that owns the Nokia brand, has not yet revealed the name or full specifications of the upcoming model. What is known is that it will be a low-cost handset built around Android Go, the lightweight version of Android designed for entry-level hardware.

The new Android Go device is the latest in a steady run of affordable launches from the brand. Nokia 2.4 has already arrived in India, and there are constant reports that Nokia will bring the Nokia 3.4 to the Indian market this month as well.

Three edges are bezel-less, with a small chin at the bottom carrying Nokia branding and a waterdrop notch at the top right.

The Nokia 2.4 runs Android 10 and is Android 11 ready, powered by the octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 chipset. In India it launched with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, expandable up to 512GB via microSD card. Nokia's website has also shown a 64GB storage variant, which is expected to go on sale in the coming days.

Cameras and battery

For photography, the Nokia 2.4 has a vertical dual rear camera setup in the middle of the back panel. It pairs a 13-megapixel primary 5P lens with an f/2.2 aperture and a flashlight, alongside a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The front holds a 5-megapixel 3P lens with an f/2.4 aperture for selfies and video calls. A 4,500mAh battery handles power, and OTG support enables reverse charging.

Connectivity and security

The Nokia 2.4 is a true dual-SIM phone that can use two nano SIMs and a microSD card at the same time. It supports 4G VoLTE, a 3.5mm jack, NFC and other basic connectivity features, plus a dedicated Google Assistant shortcut button. Security is handled by a rear fingerprint sensor on the back panel.
