MediaTek Dimensity 8400 SoC launched, claims advanced AI technology and better gaming

MediaTek has introduced the Dimensity 8400 SoC, upgrading last year’s Dimensity 8300. It offers an all-big core design for premium smartphones and features the Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE) for advanced AI applications. Powered by an eight-core Arm Cortex-A725 processor clocked at up to 3.25GHz, the chipset claims 41% better multi-core performance and 44% lower peak power usage than its previous version. The Arm Mali-G720 GPU also claims to deliver 24% more performance and 42% more efficiency, which is equipped with MediaTek’s frame rate converter and Adaptive Gaming Technology 3.0. In addition, the MediaTek NPU 880 supports global AI models, while the Imagiq 1080 ISP ensures better HDR and high-resolution imaging.

MediaTek has introduced the Dimensity 8400 chipset, which will power premium models in the future. It is the successor to the Dimensity 8300 SoC. MediaTek has claimed that the new SoC will deliver better performance and efficiency than the previous version and is also equipped with DAE for AI applications. It includes a powerful NPU for Gen-AI tasks. MediaTek says that the Dimensity 8400 SoC has an octa-core Arm Cortex-A725 processor that clocks at 3.25GHz.

Through the press release, the company said that the new SoC promises 41% more multi-core performance compared to the Dimensity 8300. It promises a 44% reduction in peak power usage compared to its previous model. The Mali-G720 GPU paired with it promises 24% higher peak performance and 42% more energy efficiency than the Dimensity 8300. The GPU works in conjunction with the MediaTek Frame Rate Converter (MFRC), which optimizes game and app performance in real time for smoother gameplay and MediaTek Adaptive Gaming Technology (MAGT) 3.0.

The MediaTek Imagiq 1080 ISP leverages QPD remosaic technology to capture more light, focus faster and more accurately, and produce high-resolution images. The NPU 880 of the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 chipset supports all major LLM/SLM/LMMs worldwide. The 5G-A modem in it boasts 3CC-CA and performance up to 5.17Gbps.
