The MediaTek Dimensity 9200 flagship processor is here, and it raises the bar for Android performance in 2022. Built on a cutting-edge 4nm process node and packed with Wi-Fi 7 support, this chip is MediaTek's answer to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 — and it arrives with a host of features that will define the next generation of premium smartphones.
MediaTek Dimensity 9200 Flagship: Core Architecture and CPU Performance
The Dimensity 9200 uses a 1+3+4 cluster CPU setup that balances peak power with everyday efficiency. At the top sits a single ARM Cortex-X3 Prime core running at 3.05GHz, delivering the raw burst speed needed for demanding apps and games. Three ARM Cortex-A715 performance cores clock in at 2.85GHz, handling sustained workloads without breaking a sweat. Rounding out the cluster are four ARM Cortex-A510 efficiency cores at 1.8GHz, keeping background tasks light on battery.
On the graphics side, MediaTek pairs this CPU with the ARM Immortalis G715 GPU, the first mobile GPU to support hardware-accelerated ray tracing. For gamers, HyperEngine 6.0 gaming technology is baked in to deliver smoother frame rates and reduced latency during intense sessions.
Display, Connectivity, and Wi-Fi 7 Support
Display support is a standout feature of the Dimensity 9200. The chip can drive Full HD+ screens at up to 240Hz, WQHD displays at up to 144Hz, and 5K (2.5K×2) displays at 60Hz — giving smartphone makers plenty of flexibility to tune the visual experience.
Connectivity is equally impressive. The Dimensity 9200 is the world's first mobile platform to support Wi-Fi 7, with data rates reaching up to 6.5Gbps. Bluetooth 5.3 is also on board, and the chip's 5G modem continues MediaTek's tradition of strong sub-6GHz and mmWave performance.
Memory and Storage
To match its performance ambitions, the Dimensity 9200 supports LPDDR5X RAM — the fastest mobile memory standard available — alongside UFS 4.0 storage, which offers significantly faster read and write speeds compared to the UFS 3.1 found in most 2022 flagships.
AI and Display Enhancement Features
MediaTek has equipped the chip with AI-SR (Super Resolution) and MEMC (Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation) technologies, promising best-in-class video streaming quality. An AI Visual Cinematic Display engine further optimises picture quality in real time, upscaling and smoothing content regardless of its original resolution.
Upcoming Smartphones Powered by the Dimensity 9200
MediaTek confirmed that Dimensity 9200-powered smartphones would arrive before the end of 2022. While the company had not officially disclosed which brands would be first to market, credible leaks at launch time pointed to the Vivo X90 series as an early adopter of the new chip. Expect a wave of Android flagships from leading manufacturers to follow shortly after.
