The Huawei Mate 40E smartphone has officially launched in China as the fourth member of the Mate 40 series. An upgraded take on the Huawei Mate 40 that arrived in October last year, it pairs a curved punch-hole OLED display with a triple rear camera, an in-display fingerprint sensor and the Kirin 990E chipset. It joins the Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, Mate 40 Pro+ and Mate 40 RS Porsche in the lineup, slotting in as a slightly more accessible option built around the same core design.
Huawei Mate 40E smartphone price and availability
The starting price of the Huawei Mate 40E is CNY 4,599, roughly Rs 51,500, for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. Shoppers who want more room for apps, photos and games can step up to the 8GB RAM with 256GB storage model, which is priced at CNY 5,099, around Rs 57,100. Buyers in China can pick it up in three finishes: Bright Black, Glaze White and Secret Silver. For now the device is a China-only release, and there is currently no word on a launch in markets outside China, so international availability remains uncertain.
Display, processor and software
The phone runs Android 10 based EMUI 11.0 and features a 6.5-inch Full HD+ OLED display with a 1080x2376 pixel resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Powering it is the high-silicon Kirin 990E processor with a Mali-G76 GPU, paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. As a flagship from Huawei, it keeps the premium design language of the wider Mate 40 family, headlined by a curved punch-hole screen. The 90Hz refresh rate makes scrolling and animations look smoother than on a standard 60Hz panel, while the OLED technology delivers deep blacks and punchy colors.

On the back sits a triple camera array. The main lens is a 64-megapixel sensor with a bright f/1.9 aperture, joined by a 16-megapixel ultra-wide lens at f/2.2 for landscapes and group shots, and an 8-megapixel telephoto shooter for closer framing. Up front, a 13-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.4 aperture handles video calls and self-portraits, sitting within the curved punch-hole cutout of the display.

The Huawei Mate 40E packs a 4200mAh battery that supports 40W fast charging, along with 5W reverse charging. Connectivity is comprehensive, covering 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS/A-GPS, NFC, IR and USB Type-C, and the phone retains a 3.5mm headphone jack for wired audio. An in-display fingerprint sensor handles biometric unlocking.
