OnePlus has confirmed that the OxygenOS 11 update, based on Android 11, is rolling out to several of its older smartphones. The list includes the OnePlus Nord, OnePlus 7 series and OnePlus 7T series, though the company has not announced a firm release date for the rollout. The news arrived via an official post on the OnePlus forum.
Which phones get the OxygenOS 11 update
According to OnePlus, three older model lines are in line for the upgrade. The rollout begins with the OnePlus Nord and then moves to the 7 and 7T families.
- OnePlus Nord
- OnePlus 7 series
- OnePlus 7T series
OnePlus has said the OnePlus Nord will receive the first open beta build this week. The OnePlus 7 and 7T series are set to follow with their updates the following week. For context, the OnePlus 7 series originally launched in 2019.
Why the OxygenOS 11 rollout matters
OnePlus is usually known for pushing updates quickly, but this time the company has been slower than expected. Samsung has moved ahead of OnePlus when it comes to delivering the Android 11 update to its older devices.
The newer hardware was already ahead. The OnePlus 8T shipped with OxygenOS 11 out of the box, while the OnePlus 8 series received the OxygenOS 11 update in October of the previous year. Now, in early 2021, OnePlus is extending that software to its older Nord, 7 and 7T devices.
About the OnePlus 8T
The OnePlus 8T is the company's latest smartphone in this lineup. It is powered by the Snapdragon 865 processor and offers up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. You can find more handsets from the brand on the OnePlus page.
