Samsung has launched the AirDresser in India, a cabinet-style appliance built to keep clothes clean without a conventional wash. The headline feature is sanitisation: Samsung claims the AirDresser kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria while also removing dust and dirt. It can be used for clothing as well as bedding, leather accessories and soft toys.
Samsung AirDresser sanitize clothes in four steps
The AirDresser refreshes garments through a four-step process rather than water and detergent. The first stage uses jet steam, which sends heat into the fabric to kill up to 99 percent of bacteria and viruses. The same step also clears odour-producing gas from the clothes.
Next comes the Jet Air stage. Here, jet air and air hangers shake loose the dirt sitting in the fabric. Samsung says the unit runs with very low noise and vibration, so it can sit anywhere in the home, including the bedroom.
Drying and deodorising
Samsung also includes heat pump drying and deodorising filters. The heat pump dries clothes at low temperatures, which the company says helps preserve the life of the fabric. The deodorising filter traps tiny particles of sweat, tobacco or food so garments do not retain a smell.
