Xiaomi has launched the ZMI Hand Warmer, a 5000mAh power bank that doubles as a pocket heater for cold weather. The Xiaomi 5000mAh power bank uses PTC self-limiting temperature heating technology to keep hands warm in winter while still charging phones and other devices the rest of the year. Here is what the gadget does and how it works.
Xiaomi 5000mAh power bank: heating and safety
The ZMI Hand Warmer relies on PTC self-limiting temperature heating technology, a patented design that Xiaomi describes as safe and reliable. The technology controls the temperature so it stays safe and stable, heating up according to what the body needs within a safe range.
The surface temperature can reach up to 52 degrees Celsius. When fully charged, the device can switch between a low and a high temperature setting, and it can be used continuously for 2 to 4 hours.
Charging features and compatibility
Beyond keeping hands warm in winter, the gadget works as a regular power bank in summer. It can charge an iPhone 12, and with ZMI's USB cable the iPhone 12 charges 54 minutes faster than it would with a 5-watt charger.
The device is also compatible with smart devices, so phones from different brands can be topped up. Accessories such as headsets and fitness bands can be charged too, at a low current. You can read more in our coverage of the latest phones.
