Qualcomm Snapdragon W5/W5+: New processors launched for flagship smartwatch, will give strong battery.

Qualcomm has launched two new chipsets Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 for smartwatches and wearable devices. The company says that both these chipsets are built on 4nm process technology, which consumes half the power, delivers twice the performance and is equipped with double the features.

The company also said that these new chipsets are 30 percent smaller and thinner in size than before. Oppo and Mobvoi have announced to make the first smartwatch with Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipsets. Qualcomm says that 25 designs based on these new chipsets are in the pipeline. Qualcomm Snapdragon W5+ and Snapdragon W5

The Qualcomm Snapdragon W5+ and Snapdragon W5 chipsets are built on a hybrid architecture. Both come with a 4nm SoC with an always-on co-processor built on 22nm. Both these chipsets also support ultra low-power Bluetooth 5.3. For wearable devices, both these chipsets of Qualcomm can be a huge jump for the company in this segment.

The Snapdragon W5+ and Snapdragon W5 chipsets may support the new Deep Sleep and Hibernate modes. They support low-power islands for Wi-Fi, positioning and audio subsystems, which can extend the battery life of the smartwatch.

Qualcomm has also introduced Compal and Pegatron reference designs equipped with both these chipsets. The company says that these will help brands design their products with the new chipset. As we mentioned earlier, Oppo and Mobvoi will be the first to introduce products with these new chipsets.

Oppo Watch 3 series will come with this chipset. This smartwatch can be launched in August. Mobvoi’s next-gen TicWatch flagship smartwatch could also be equipped with these chipsets. This wearable device will also be launched this year.
